Scrub Away the Summer

Bow and Sprig what you need

We are halfway thru September, and thus begins the goodbye to summer. What also needs a goodbye is the summer buildup in my jewelry. Between sunscreen, lotion, and dirt from all the outdoor activities, my pieces have definitely lost their shine. However, every bit of gunk buildup was worth it.

While I will miss the summer fun, I am looking forward to getting out our Fall wardrobe and cleaning our jewelry for the new season. The buildup on my jewelry was pretty intense, so I went looking online for the best jewelry cleaner, and I found myself overwhelmed by the number of options and underwhelmed by what the options were. Fortunately, I follow a few jewelry Instagram accounts, and came across The Clear Cut’s approach. It is effective and so easy!

All you really need for a good clean is warm water, dish soap, and a soft bristle toothbrush. I also recommend a polish towel for drying to ensure fibers will not snag on any prongs when drying. For the bowl, I like to go with a wide bowl to so your hand can comfortably reach the bottom to avoid dropping your jewelry in. I have heard too many horror stories of women accidentally knocking a gem out from dropping their jewelry on hard surfaces. This is a major reason why both our Signature Jewelry Stand and Everywhere Tray are cushioned and upholstered.

To start, fill the bowl with hot water and adding a few drops of dish soap. Use the toothbrush to mix the two together, then gently place each piece in the soapy water for about 10-20 minutes. Take each piece and scrub gently with the toothbrush, rinse under warm water and place on the towel to dry. Tah-dah! You are done and ready to take on the new season with your jewelry shining bright!
